Each chapter after this introduces us to different people who have come to work through the authors program and through these snapshots, we are able to really visualize the principals and concepts outlined in the book. Roger shows up throughout the book and in the last chapter we see how Roger is able to make the changes that he needs and how he sticks with them. Roger is a client of the authors whose boss sends him to work with them. It all set the stage for the rest of the book.

The principals, the idea of the mind and body working together, the change process. The first chapter of this book has multiple highlights on every page. I think I have mentioned before that I like to read non-fiction books with a highlighter. Define your purpose, Face the Truth, and Take Action. They also outline a three-step process for change.

Principal Four: Positive energy rituals (highly specific routines for managing energy) are the key to full engagement and sustained high performance.īut just understanding the principals will not lead to change. Principal Three: To build capacity, we must push beyond our normal limits, training in the same systematic way that elite athletes do. Principal Two: Because energy capacity diminishes both with overuse and underuse, we must balance energy expenditure with intermittent energy renewal. Principal One: Full engagement requires drawing on four separate but related sources of energy: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The book outlines 4 principals that will help you build your capacity to live a fully engaged life. The authors of this book began their work with professional athletes and eventually expanded to work with many different types of companies and businesses.
